THE BEGINNINGS OF ALPHA PSI
Old Alpha Psi Chapter of Iota Phi Theta

It was a mild luminous day in June 1983, when a brave young student at Rutgers University-New Brunswick, NJ by the name of Drexall Christopher Butler decided that he wanted to embark on a different type of path. A distinct path which differed from that of the traditional 8 African-American Greek organizations formally known as the “Elite 8.” He decided to find other individuals who shared a common interest in making history rather then simply being part of one. With the aid of the Epsilon Chapter (New Jersey City University) that summer began the defined establishment of the  Classy “Do or Die” Alpha Psi Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Incorporated, the 47th house which continues to strive at “Building a Tradition, and Not Resting Upon One.”  The chapters accomplishments range from: several step-shows, back-to-back chapter of year awards, brother of the year awards, most improved chapter, and several other accomplishments.
